Chronology of cameras Olympus

The tradition of naming some of its compact cameras with the name "TRIP" is well-established at Olympus. In 1968, the first camera in this series was called the Trip 35, and it was so successful (with 10 million units sold over 15 years) that its name was used for numerous successors, not always at the same level of quality.
At the Salon de la Photo in Paris (SIPI) in 1996, Olympus introduced two cameras that marked the beginning of a new range bearing the famous name. These were the Trip AF 30 and the Trip 300. The Trip AF 31 was missing from the presentation. All three cameras were similar and shared aesthetic similarities with the famous Mju series but did not claim to match them in technical aspects.

The Trip 300 is a fixed-focus camera with a fixed shutter speed of 1/60. Its automatic flash cannot be turned off.
The Trip AF 30 is an autofocus camera with a flash that can be turned off, and it features the Fill-in mode that worked wonders on the Mju cameras. Its shutter speed is set at 1/125.
The Trip AF 31 is identical to the AF 30 but also includes a self-timer.

As these were low-cost models, the value-added components were manufactured in Japan and then distributed to assembly plants in China or the Philippines.
A few years later, in 2002, their successors were named the Trip 500, Trip AF 50 et Trip AF 51. The range followed the same segmentation, and the main improvement was the integration of motors in all three models.
